I would like to share some insight into the science course sequence change that was made three years ago.  I was sitting in the room when the curriculum team, which was composed of the 6-12 science department teachers, building administration, and a superintendent made the decision to change the course sequence.   First, it is important to understand that curriculum changes occur in a context and are made with the best interest of students in mind.  We do not always have all the information we need from Pennsylvania Department of Education and we do the very best we can with the information we do, including our collective professional experiences. 

It is important to understand the process for curriculum evaluation at RASD.  I believe I can share a perspective that will give a little insight into the context, which will help you to understand where we are with the science curriculum.  The bottom line we have observed the changes that were made three years ago, we monitored students performance across grade levels, we monitored pass failure rates in both math and science and we have had substantial staffing changes within the department.  With that said we are in the process of making both short term and long term adjustments to the science curriculum.

Wanted – Pictures for Yearbook!!

If you snap a great picture at a school event, sports event, drama event, etc…..submit it to Yearbook for review.

Individuals who want to help yearbook can download “yearbook snap” from wherever apps are found. This is a free app and to use the app you must select our school and use our password “elkers”. When images are uploaded to the yearbook you must provide an email address and place the image in a content folder. Remember that you need to be connected to the internet to use this app. Yearbook submissions will reviewed by the advisors and then made available for the students for yearbook use.

The Ridgway Middle-High School will show their support of Breast Cancer Awareness by sporting their pink gear on October 16th!


Picture Re-Takes will be done on October 29th.  If you missed the first picture day in September, bring your order forms with you.   If you need a re-take, bring your pictures with you.  Any senior that did not attend their tux/drape appointment in July will have their picture taken this day.

Ridgway Area Band member Luke Guyer capped off the Ridgway Area School District Band Program’s most successful season ever with his audition and acceptance into the National Association for Music Education’s All-National Band.  During the 2014-2015 school year, Ridgway had the highest number of students selected to and participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educator’s festival system which culminates in the opportunity to audition for the Pennsylvania All-State Band.
